The Chippewa great-grandmother was from St. John North Dakota, probably Turtle Mountain res. She was one of the kids sent to the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle PA. I have a postcard from one of her sisters who was working at the Ft. Totten res. Her husband, Pennsylvania Deutsch, did not want anybody to know he married a "squaw" so they did not put in for a share of Indian land when it was being passed out.
