UW, why not just volunteer? Why wait for a draft?

Maurice,
Less than two hours after the 9/11 attack, and moments after conferring with my wife, I called Special Forces HQ at Ft Bragg, NC and volunteered for recall.

The Master Sergeant who took my call told me the phones were ringing off the hook and I was the 100th retired SFer to volunteer. I felt terrible at first that I had delayed so long. Later, I was happy to be part of what became a much larger group of volunteers.

Some were accepted to be instructors in SF schools. A handful of recent SF retirees were accepted back on active duty. The rest of us are dedicated to supporting the troops, their families, and the SF war refugee assistance program.

If there was a war, I think I'd rather go than have our son go.

Maurice,
There is a war. Are you waiting to be called or are you going to volunteer or are you going to think about it some more?
