CB - drove to SC today and missed much of the thread. The Amish sadly still abound. The Mennonites too but they are no where near as wierd as the amish. The rest sort of blended into society over decades to the point of disappearance

LOL Plenty of Episcopalians, Lutherans, Catholics and my English ancestors subset, Primitive Methodists as well. Along with all those German sects, it makes for an interesting mix in PA--a true melting pot. Wm Penn's Holy Experiment was the most tolerant of all the early colonies. The laws were deliberately less severe than in their former homelands, where the punishment for robbery could be death. Penn believed only murder and treachery warranted such a severe punishment. The Quakers set the tone. It wasn't all that many yrs ago that retail stores could not open on Sunday in PA. To this day liquor is purchased at an official State Store. There was more equality for women than that found in the other colonies. The book "Albion's Seed" describes the 4 regions of U.S. influenced by English settlers from 4 different areas of that country, and demonstrates the imprints still visible today. It's fascinating.

CB, I can understand that, but it seems odd that no other group has used a state as part of their ethnicity. Oh well, no problem for me, anyway.
