If you are a Cleveland Browns fan living in Dallas you are out of luck as far as television is concerned. Out of market fans are the only real attraction for NFL on Sirius. But the problem is those games are readily available TELEVISED from other places. Rabid Browns fans living in Dallas CAN get the games on TV. To be interested enough to spend the money to get the games, they're probably going to be interested enough to get it on TV and not going to settle for listening to it on Sirius. They might want the games on Sirius as an adjunct, but they're going to get the TV version first. I think. I don't know if MLB will pay or not. But I do know that NFL isn't shaping up as though it was worthwhile. Q3 was the heat of the NFL season, Sirius had NO COMPETITION AT RETAIL (because XM's biggest seller, the Roady2, was stocked out for most of the quarter), and their adds were only 180K. That's a big improvement for them, but that's after spending all this NFL money plus massive ad expenditures. We'll see. But I believe there is a big difference between MLB and NFL in this respect. NFL has to target out of market fans while MLB is naturally more listenable. Also, the timing of the games is a big deal. People are at work, commuting, everywhere but home during MLB games. But NFL games are on while people are at home, often, specifically, so they can watch the games. I don't really follow sports much anymore, but when I lived in Dallas many years I'd listen to about every game at work. I don't think that's that unusal.
