For now, I am taking the family to Disneyland.

One good way to descibe the difference between the "core" and the "gap" countries is how tourist-safe they are. Stay out of Africa and the ME, for instance.

Reflexive anti-Americanism is endemic in Latin America. Has been for generations.

The first Gulf War had everything that critics of the second Gulf War could ask for -- clear cut violation of international law, imprimatur from the UN, a large multinational coalition.

The common thread is America. And, I suggest to you that the common thread in Latin America is socialism and communism. It's always been fashionable for Latin American intellectuals to believe in Karl Marx and hate Adam Smith. And Uncle Sam.
