That's the way the Catholic church is. It seems to be one big denomination with a few big churches. The limiting factor in new churches seems to be the shortage of priests. There's a reason for that and it has nothing to do with anyone outside that church.

OTOH, there are many Baptist and Pentecostal denominations and many many churches that are unaffiliated with a denomination. They seem to have a surplus of ministers - I expect part of the reason there are so many of the non-denominational churches is the ministers simply organize their own churches.

From 1915 till 1969 they were kept from expanding into a larger building. Excuse me, but there is nothing there to indicate that. You just made it up. The idea that somehow a church could be "kept from expanding" in TX is ridiculous. How would this happen and who would keep it from expanding?

The Houston area has grown alot during those times. The Intercontinental airport was built north of Houston about 5 miles from Humble in the late '60's - that's when growth took off in the area around there.

..especially where there were many Hispanics who are predominately Catholic. Humble wasn't traditionally a hispanic area before it started growing. Maybe now. But one shouldn't assume hispanics are Catholic at least in Texas. Traditionally they were but that's been changing for a long time. The pentecostal churches seem real popular with them, both Spanish speaking iglesias and the English speaking churches. Check google for Humble Texas iglesia - I'll bet there are a few at least. Those will be Spanish language non-denominational churches. My old neighbors were hispanic and Methodist and I've known Assembly of God members, Baptists, and even a Mormon who were hispanic. Oh, yes also know one who is a Unity church member.

"Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president?"

* This 46% approval rating for Bush is very important, and not everyone who approves of you votes for you. It proves real weakness and people wanting a new direction and change of leadership. Time for Kerry The Closer to move in,
