What's your take on the relationship between the US and Saudi Arabia?

If you've been there a long time, did it change when the current admin came to power? What lasting changes would you say are still evident now, 3 years after 9/11?

Is China any more or less a factor in S.A. these days?

I have lived here for many years. The take on relationship between US and SA is that it has been damaged by 9/11 and the western press. However there are strong economic & other benefits for the 2 to remain close and they will. For instance Saudi has increased production to the max to help to stabilize prices. Many of the Saudi businessmen and govt. schooled in US and England and they love to go their for vacation.

The GWB policies are changing SA policies and they are moderating the public education and religous teachings. Local elections are coming soon ( although they are still excluding women). They are actively pursuing Al Qaeda and taking them out, where before they were "living" with them.

China has always had very little influence here, other than their products are everywhere as they are in US.

Regards

Neil
