New Survey Shows Bush Ahead in Both Popular and Electoral Votes; Kintera/Luth ''Vote 2004'' Survey of 2,348 U.S. Consumers Shows Bush Lead in Nearly All Demographics
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 2004--In contrast with several recent polls suggesting a tight presidential race next week, a report released today shows that among 2,348 U.S. consumers surveyed online, Bush may be heading for a huge win.
In the Kintera/Luth "Vote 2004" survey, Bush leads in both popular and electoral votes, with males and females, all age groups and all income levels - although the lead is narrow among low-income voters. The Kintera/Luth Vote 2004 survey is a result of a unique research partnership between Kintera(R) Inc., (NASDAQ:KNTA), a leading technology provider for nonprofit organizations, political campaigns and advocacy groups and Luth Research Inc., a veteran online market research firm.
Kerry leads in some subsets of voters -- those who identify either the war in Iraq or the economy as their greatest concerns, those who never attend religious services and by a slight margin, those who do not give to charity. Bush gets overwhelming support from those who attend religious services regularly (more than 2-to-1), from those who give to charity (17% margin) and a whopping 92% of all those who identify terrorism as their number one concern. Nader receives less than 2% of the vote.
The Vote 2004 Survey
The Kintera/Luth Vote 2004 survey was administered from October 5, 2004 to October 11, 2004, using participants from the Luth Research SurveySavvy Panel, a widely recognized online sample source with 2.4 million individuals. A total of 6,700 emails were sent to a sample of Luth Research panel participants that reflects the demographics across the U.S.
Highlights from the Kintera/Luth Vote 2004 survey include:
-- Bush garners 50% of the vote to Kerry's 39.5%, with 7.7% undecided and 1.9% supporting Nader.
-- 50% of females support Bush while 40% support Kerry; 50% of males support Bush while 39% support Kerry.
-- People who identified themselves as frequent churchgoers support Bush over Kerry 62.4% to 28.9%; non-churchgoers support Kerry over Bush 51.4% to 32.8%.
-- The war in Iraq was named most critical issue, followed by the economy and then terrorism.
-- Those claiming terrorism as their most critical issue support Bush over Kerry 91.7% to 4.9%.
The election survey email message included a link (www.luth.kintera.org/election2004) to the online poll, which featured seven election-related questions and four demographic questions. The survey was designed not only to directly gauge respondents' voting preferences but also various demographics and social characteristics that can be used to predict the voting patterns of the yet undecided. The poll yielded a 2.1 % margin of error.
