If there seems to be any form of "unification" force between them, it is because US is giving them a focal point.

That's the only rational reason for believing it could happen, of course.

Instead of unification if anything a shattering of Iraq seems more likely; civil war between religious factions -
Its not as if this hasn't happened before ... Yugoslavia comes to mind.

As one outcome of a civil war, you might see cultural regions align themselves with other countries.
