You have attained wisdom, clearly. And yes, there will be no replication. The trust is gone. We were very trusting. It is very hard to cope with the political situation without too much anxiety. Do you have any tips on doing that? Not really, but the way I try to cope with it is to keep this quote in mind: "... The Republicans will do all they can, however damaging to the country, to damage a Kerry presidency, as they did the Clinton presidency.
