That's true, as I said in another post. But that wasn't the topic of the conversation <g> at least not at first. Gold would have been about 1/2 as good as the broad market in the past 44 years. I'm just wondering about, say, the next 10 years.

I do not disagree with your general statement.

I think timing is the critical variable. Gold purchased in the early 70's and sold at the end of that decade provided a decent return.

Real estate today may not be a great investment in five years. I think you would agree with this statement.

I am not a gold bug, even if I play one on SI. I never owned more than an ounce of gold before 2003. About a year and half ago I became very concerned about our economy and I converted some of my assets to gold.

I sleep great.

And, I plan to sell all this gold at some point, but I do not know when this point will arrive.
