Those aren't my opinions, I simply linked the interview since OBL specifically raised it. Too many people wouldn't bother reading either if they have to hunt for them.

So keeping "Saddam in a box" via UN sanctions contributed to 911?

This isn't the first time bin Laden has raised Iraqi sanctions as a reason for murdering Americans, just the first time he's personally tied it to 9/11.

So, yes, the answer to your question is "yes."

He has very specific grievances - support for Israel and American presence in Saudi Arabia are others. The whole "he hates modernity" rap is the result of reading tea leaves. We could try taking him at his word.

Not that this would change anything we do, but we have gotten rid of sanctions! Not that he's satisfied with our alternative! ;^)

Saddam was another US Puppet. Of course he did atrocious things. He learned it from the Americans who put him in power.
