We could not surround. Many of the mountain tunnels dug with US taxpayer assistance had openings in Pakistan. Many tunnels went for miles. Pakistan was not allowing US troops in at that time. Local villagers distrust outsiders, and have for centuries. Al Qaeda knew this and always tried to include locals in their travel parties.

If you could choose a place to draw the enemy out, would you choose the mountains or the plains?

Z, With more troops, we could've surrounded the mountain range.

Imagine if he wasn't there.

The whole second-guessing over where bin Laden was is stupid. Very sad to see the most wanted criminal of all time being reduced to a political football. Willie Horton doesn't even compare. (You do remember Willie Horton, don't you?)

More troops = easier for OBL to escape? This is just rationalization. With more troops, we could've surrounded the mountain range.

A lot more troop would have taken a lot more time to deploy and would have been more difficult to supply. If we attacked before having the new troops deployed and ready we would have had a very similar situation to what actually happened. If we waited for a huge invasion to be ready it would have given bin Laden a lot more time to hide or escape. Surrounding an entire mountain range requires a lot of soldiers and can cause difficult supply situations in a place like Afghanistan even for a country like the US.

We could have had a few more soldiers without much delay but they probably wouldn't have made much difference.
