I agree that people went with the devil they knew. The fact that any analysis of his specifics comes apart at the seams, tells me that people didn't want to bother with painful scrutiny. They want to hear that deficit spending can go on forever if Big Daddy says it's OK. They truly (and unfortunately, IMHO) have been scared into believing that unilateralism will offer them both security at home and leadership and respect abroad. They think that the world will keep funding anything the US wants as long as they keep going to Walmart like good Pavlovian puppies.

It's not a game that can last for long, and it's not hard to see through the flim-flam. I don't think they were looking because frankly, they didn't want to. They wanted to be stroked by someone who would make them feel good about themselves.

And in the end, they get the leadership they want and deserve. The vox populi spoke in a free and fair election. Kerry lost an election the Democrats should have won. But at least we are upholding the process.
