France missed the boat a long time ago. Same thing happened in Africa when sport hunting was cut off--Ivory poaching became the only means of support for too many people. In the United States, idiots are actually going around sterilizing deer and other animals in over-populated areas instead of allowing hunters to reduce the herd and increase the habitat. When hunters are disenfranchised, their support for habitat improvement or protection is lost and the species they hunt suffer. Lilly livered bunny hugging protectionists will never, never understand that THEY are the problem. PETA, ELF and the like are worse than a death warrant for species. The evidence that hunters would never have let that poor bear get to be the last one: Ducks Unlimited. Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Among others. These people will never get it.
