Excellent posts, particular the one to which I am responding. No doubt Arafat is/was a scum bag who manipulated his own people for his own ego and fortune.

However, the mid east will never be peaceful if we keep looking back and playing the blame game. Do people want to live in peace?

Don't get me wrong. If one of the extremists (e.g. Hamas) comes into power and wants to show how tough he/it is by escalating the terror, Israel knows what to do and it will do it effectively as it has been doing.

But Israel should open the door now with bold moves that will encourage peace and a Palestinian leader that will have the courage to take bold moves towards peace.

You are mostly right. It appears that just as we give large annual support to Israel, France give annual financial support to the PA.

When did France start? Has France really been our enemy for that long?

Yes, Chiraq is a petty little piss ant. He will do things to tweak our nose, because that plays well at home. It will be very interesting to see if Old European leaders attend the funeral. Will the violence remain stopped through the funeral? If not, there is no hope.
