E

You probably remember that I am bibliophobic. I haven't read a book in over 30 years. Remember the story I told here ( i think on feelings or DAR) when the Spanish colleger professor sitting next to me on a flight remarked that by saying so i've "indicted my intellectual capacity". He really said that.

Anyway.

My daughter is into "lit" and for my b-day bought me a book called White Noise. She wrote a really nice personal note on the inside cover and wants me to read.

Is that a good book?

are there cliff notes?

Well, just speaking personally, allegory gives me a headache mostly. I have to figure out the plot AND what it all really means. But the bear book does sound very interesting, and it can be difficult to find good books for middle-aged children.

Even though I majored in English, I did so mostly so I could lie around and read and write papers instead of attend class and take tests. The political background of when I went to college--the Summer of Love, the Vietnam War, etc.--was plenty distracting, and it is really hard to understand even Cliff Notes if you have taken way too many hallucinogens recently--although I did give it the old college try. What George Bush and I definitely have in common (see, everyone can find something in common) is that we did not distinguish ourselves at college.

If you want to discuss books here it is fine with me. I must say that I am enjoying modern novels right now. I asked once before if anyone had read The Lovely Bones by Sebold or My Dream of You by O'Faolain and don't believe I had any replies.

I somehow got the impression that thread heads could only ban people from stock threads, not at the Coffee Shop. Is my understanding incorrect?
