We watched the Bill Maher show last night. Normally, we just don't do it as it is intolerable -- but I really had to see Susan Sarandon and Maher after the election. He also had Pat Schroeder and Andrew Sullivan on.

These people just don't get it. They haven't the slightest idea why they were defeated. They seem to think their candidate wasn't liberal enough. The arrogance of the Maher position was palpable -- blaming it on the "Evangelical Right".

I've got news for these idiots. It wasn't the evangelical right. It was people who could clearly see that Kerry was an extremist liberal running from his record 20 year Senate record, a LIAR and a PANDERER. It was the fact that the Left picked one of the most extreme liberals in the party to represent them. Big Mistake.

The influence of the religious right is NOTHING like it was 20 years ago. Bush was re-elected by sensible people who comprehend that the Iraq war was necessary, that all wars are messy, and those who don't want the Court populated with extremist liberals under ANY circumstances.

Those arguing there is no mandate clearly are emulating Kerry's ostriches. Bush was re-elected by a reasonable margin in a country that is more divided than at any time since the Civil War. Bush was re-elected in spite of the major media making every effort to elect Kerry -- including a conspiracy by CBS news and the NYT to spring an "October Surprise" 48 hours before the election and a major motion picture targeting Bush with a massive campaign of lies and propaganda. Most importantly, he was given a nice majority in each the House and Congress -- which IMO is the ULTIMATE MEASURE of whether there is a mandate.

So the Left needs to get over it. I feel certain Bush will be taking the gloves off. In the first term, he was trying to deal with the liberals (like kissing up to Kennedy with the Education Bill). I don't see that happening. I believe Bush will narrowly define a domestic agenda and make it happen. And I think he'll end the war in Iraq and leave Iraq in reasonably good condition. If he can get a token liberal cabinet member, fine. But this will be Bush's agenda.
