Last week I had dinner at It's About Thyme in Culpepper. It's run by a man who used to work at The Inn at Little Washington, but it's more French country style, much more casual, but excellent chow. The weather was beautiful, and I was thinking, if only one had a decent income, living in or near Culpepper would seem like heaven on earth. But no Borders, no Sams, no Costco, no Kaiser HMO, no good hospitals, etc. On the other hand, Charlottesville has all that stuff. It really is pretty out there. You could buy some unimproved land in the Shenandoah Valley and build a very nice cabin. Buy one of those pre-fab post and beam houses from some place like Lindal Cedar Homes. Dan can have a private practice part time until he dies or becomes senile. That's what I am planning on doing. A little bit of law from time to time can actually be quite remunerative, and it's easy work. Plus it gets one out of the house. I know lots of quite elderly lawyers who do it, and seem to have fun with it.
