"Again, I would argue that the Constitution grants states the power to leave in the 10th amendment."

You'd be wrong. The Articles of Confederation explicitly granted states the right to secede, so it is not like the framers of the Constitution were unaware of the possibility. The fact that this was left out, says something...

I'm not seriously advocating a state seceding but I firmly believe if you can't change or alter a state of affairs you find objectionable, then it is only right that you be allowed to opt out of such an arrangement. Freedom, if one is to take it seriously, must at least include that right. The right to secede is thus the one right that is absolutely necessary in any society that calls itself "free". Anything less is totalitarianism in disguise.

Good point. I agree as well. Its seems we are coming to point where both sides strongly disagree on a number of important issues. In all marriages there comes a point where internal disagreements threatened to up end the relationship. If a couple can't work through those disagreements, then for the sake of everyone they must separate and ultimately divorce.

I believe these united states are at this point. And we are not talking disagreement over petty issues but serious, fundamental ways of running one's life. I think at a minimum we must begin a national dialogue as to whether we should stick it out or not. If we don't, I fear there will increasingly confrontations between the two groups.
