Wonder has its rightful place as an essential human element. It transcends the universe of human experience. Although wonder can be suppressed to some extent, it can not be wholey eliminated from any human endeavor.

Don't know if that has anything to do with your discussion. I just felt like contributing something today.

When you first said that critics like Harold Bloom are probably two-fisted drinkers in pursuit of sexual ecstasy, I thought that came out of left field. Now I know where that comes from. Didn't Plato say that all poetry is nothing but a pursuit of Eros? I had been unaware of the ancient quarrel between Plato and Homer, and just how badly Plato needed to stomp on Homer. I find this argument fascinating. It's funny though, everything Plato knew about etymology came from Homer. And he said Socrates was his only teacher. Bah!
