Well I for one am just as opposed to French colonialism as I am to the US variety. France indeed has a long and brutal colonial record in Africa, Algeria and Vietnam. I have always believed that French opposition to the US invasion of Iraq was based on considerations of national and imperial interest -- not morality. That said the US record in Iraq including a decade of genocidal sanctions and now the invasion and brutal occupation accompanied by a torrent of lies would have done Hitler proud.
