Wow! Is this a case of Specter covering his a**? That one came out of the blue for me. Is that why Ashcroft resigned? I don't think he stands a chance in hell of receiving enough votes for a confirmation. Too much animosity on the left.

This is a great strategy.
Talk up someone as unacceptable as Ashcroft to the lefties, then nominate someone else. They'll approve the other guy in a nanosecond!
