There was a Babylon5 episode where a scientist developed a serum that would give a person immortality. The catch was one of the ingredients came from existing living people that had to be killed for it.

midwinter.com

"The serum designed by Jha'dur is insidious, requiring something critical from living beings to make."

With embryonic stem cell research and cloning it looks like we are there...

I have seen no-one argue any living flesh with complete DNA qualifies. At the moment of conception, the fusing of DNA creates human life. That Unique bundle of DNA contains an operating intelligence that knows how to be a human being. Before conception their was just DNA. After conception a human being is. A human at birth cannot survive without some years of very intensive support. All human life once started dies of natural causes or accident or is killed deliberately.

A new human life starts at the moment of conception. The only question is will it die in one second or one century later. ANd what is the cause of the death. Lot's of rhetoric tries to confuse the quite simple. The biology of life and death is quite simple.

When a person dies (Note check to see it this is true for Saddam, Arafat, etc.) there are a few ounces that are removed from their weight which are not accounted for by physical means. This has been documented. So people have explained it by saying it is the soul leaving the body. Is this a measurable phenomenon during abortions? Is it different at different points during fetal development?
