Compare all you like, I encourage it. Patriot and its ancestors has been in development for many decades at a cost of billions.

Meanwhile, as the money spigot flows freely toward Boeing et al, the most likely point of entry for a real WMD into the us will be in a truck or a container aboard a ship, which will eventually end up on a truck or train.

The fancy laser isn't going to help in that situation.

Instead of properly funding technology to help secure international commerce including but certainly not limited to advanced container scanning in every port in North America and at port of exits overseas - money is being wasted.

It won't even take a massive nuclear explosion to essentially stop all international commerce to and from the United States.

Even a dirty bomb in one single container, in any port in the country, or any major overseas port which serves as a launching pad for US-destined commerce, will terminate - full stop - international trade with the US and as a result make all prior stock market crashes look like tiny blips.

Prediction: Terrorist based WMD of some sort will be used against the USA, or one of its key allies or suppliers, *decades* before any _real_ threat from so-called rogue nations truly emerges.

Guess: a smart terrorist would act sooner than later, before the nation gets its act together.

Further prediction: anti ballistic missile defense still won't be working by then.

A little off the topic at hand - my concerns over the destabilization of international accords and the fomenting of a new arms race stand.
