What you describe is very much like "acting white."

The people who go further and take on an "anti-intelectual" mold, are doing something very much like complaining about people "acting white". But I think they are the minority of the people I am talking about.

I agree that they're not the same thing. I'm not much interested in the negative attitudes two opposing groups have about each other. That's commonplace.

I think a lot of the "anti-elite" viewpoint is exactly that. Negative attitudes two opposing groups have about each other. That was sort of my point, that most of it is that rather than the "acting white" scenario.

Of course, the validity of an opinion is not a function of the number of people that hold it

Quite true.

Tim

I'm more concerned about the rejection of intellectual approaches. Not healthy, IMO.

That is the real divide. Evangelicals and Born Again Christians, for example, more so than mainstream religion (MSR), by definition already know the truth. They know exactly to the minute how and when the universe was created. They already know everything they need to know. Anything that hints at challenging those beliefs will be rejected from the getgo. Similarly, there are many that have been there and done that - there is no more they need to know. Everything they needed to know they learned in the X grade of primary school. Finally, then there are all those that have enough to do just to make ends meet and to survive. For those of us, intellectual approaches is WhatEver.

There, that accounts for at least 52% of the population. Of course there is some overlap.
