"He portrayed her as a big lipped parrot and therein lies the deliberate racial slur."

That certainly was the most obvious one, but not the only one.

Don't forget the repeated use of "Chief"

"OK Chief. Anything you say Chief. You bet Chief. You're my
hero Chief."

That was an obvious reference to the Master/slave relationship
emoted in old movies, where the slave always ended any reply
with to the owner with "Yes Master" & "No Master", etc.

FOX reported a radio talk show dude called Rice Aunt Jamima and Powell Uncle Tom. Since being brought on the carpet he is 'ready to apologize'. Anyone so prejudice should be kept off the air. Anyone so stupid should never have been doing anything but flipping burgers.

I haven't come down one way or another on this issue. I'm just trying to understand caricatures in general. I don't know what Oliphant was trying to convey, really. I saw a drawing of condi rice's head imposed on the body of a bird which was obviously some kind of parrot.

I've read the different comments here and I understand why some people thought it was racist. I also understand it was an attack on her intelligence.

When I see caricatures in magazines, newspapers or on line, I'm generally been very turned off and usually disgusted. I have come to expect that caricatures are nasty and unflattering. I think that's the whole idea.

But the issue for me is why Condelezza Rice can be caricatured like this, and nary a word from our more liberal friends.

I suspect if it had been a democrat president that had nominated her for Secretary of State we'd all be hearing/reading/seeing a different story. I can't prove it though, since it's never happened.
