Hello Maurice, The French Central Bank selling their physical is EXCELLENT NEWS!

(a) Central bankers are terrible market timers

(b) They are selling, as all other bankrupting governments have sold or are selling, not because gold will be worth less or worthless, but because they are going bankrupt

As to <<I'm enjoying the pay rate Uncle Al KBE has given me for my US$. Now up from 0.94% to 2%. I can get TWO hamburgers now! >>

... you got your math hat on too tight. I will give you 2.5% for your money and allow you to enjoy the devaluation in happiness.

As to ... <<Digging gold at $250 an ounce and stacking it in an underground vault doesn't seem such a good idea these days>>

... you got your logic scarf around your neck too tight, see here worldmarket.blogspot.com

Chugs, Jay

Mq, it is nice to think that Euro CB bank gold will finally be liberated from the tomb and used for jewelry and other useful stuff. But more likely it will just be bought by these guys and moved to a different hole in the ground...

NEW YORK, Nov 19 (Reuters) - The launch of the streetTRACKS Gold Shares exchange-traded fund (ETF) on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday set a volume record for any derivative, ETF or structured product listed on the NYSE, the exchange said.

Six million shares traded in streetTRACKS Gold Shares (GLD.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , which tracks the price of bullion and is the first commodity-based security available in the United States, according to an NYSE statement issued late on Thursday.

StreetTRACKS Gold Shares closed at $44.38. Each share represents one-tenth of an ounce of gold, less the ETF's expenses.
