christine I'm going to be totally honest with you here

it's not at all about how you feel towards hunters, of course you can and have every right to hold your opinions about it

but posting that post seemed at the very least so caviler as to the deaths of those poor 6 people, who I might also had every right to hunt

it was never about hunting, it was about their tragic deaths

I couldn't believe your response

you chose to tirade bout hunting and animals rights, completely dismissing the loss of human life, as if they deserved that early horrible death because they hunted animals with guns

yours was an ugly post [IMO] and you can see by the responses, I was not the only one who felt that way, as extraordinarily unfeeling

Unlike some earlier human groups, or people who live in subsistence cultures, we do not need to hunt to live. I do put the value of animal life equal to human life, and I believe for myself that it is morally wrong to kill animals or eat them at all.

What do you say to Gloop's post earlier, that but for hunting, the deer population would balloon. Don't forget, we have largely eradicated the predators who kept the herds in check - wolves, primarily. If it were not for an annual hunt, the deer population would expand dramatically. The result is that the animals starve to death during the winter. There is simply too little food.

I grew up in Michigan, and this happened periodically. In fact, unless I am mistaken, the number of deer tags (licenses) issued each year is the result of DNR calculations as to what is needed to keep the herds in check to avoid a population explosion.

Is it better that little Bambi be killed quickly with a bullet too the heart, or to starve to death over the course of several months of sub-zero temperatures in Northern Michigan, Wisconsin or Minnesota?

I wonder how many insects you kill every day just by going about your normal everyday living. Think of the poor animals who were killed or lost their home when you decided to live in a permanent structure. Think of the animals and humans who you harm by driving your car that spews poisons into the atmosphere.

You think you get off on the karma just because you didn't try to kill those insects? Or do you secretly use Black flag on the roaches and ants when they invade your home?

You think you get off because you didn't actually do the killing of the animals when your house was built? (if you don't think that grading the land kills animals, you are wrong). You are also depriving them of their natural habitat. Which of course means that you are responsible for more animal deaths.

I'm assuming you drive a car, but let's say that you don't, ok, you take the train. Trains require energy, energy generation is going to kill some animals along the way no matter how you look at it. No train, ok, you ride a bicycle everywhere....you don't think that the manufacturing process kills animals somewhere along the way?

We won't even get into the animal products that are probably spread throughout your home. Not to mention the energy required for you to be on the internet.

Girl, your mere existence kills animals. Your karmic balance sheet is looking a little bit dirty from over here.

instead of rationalizing your feelings about hunters, why don't you just do the right thing and apologize to those offended by this extremely intemperate remark:

Live by the gun, die by the gun . . . at least there are some animals now who are not going to be murdered by those five.
