OMG.

Actually, since Gallup simply makes things up I really doubt that half of Americans (unless you include children) really think that God created humans 10,000 years ago. I don't think they'd use a figure (10,000) that precise.

They are more apt to say, duh-er-duh, 400 years ago, a billion years ago? After all, most people under the age of seniority have no idea who we fought during the Vietnam War. They have no idea what Thanksgiving is about either.

The rumor is that the Hubble telescope, after having determined that the universe is maybe 14 billion years old, has been scrapped because it doesn't agree with the Bible which doesn't put a date on the creation of the universe in terms of billions of years.

The triumph of the Inquisition, the Salem Witch Trials, McCarthyism, the Nazis, the other fascists, superstition and sheer laziness over facts.

I saw an interesting theory about the Salem Witch Trials. There may have been a bacteria or fungus that infected the grains that people ate which had an effect similar to LSD. Could-a been they actually saw visions. You eat some bad food, you get hanged...nice species us humans.

Its quite amazing.

"Forty-five percent of Americans also believe that God created human beings pretty much in their present form about 10,000 years ago. A third of Americans are biblical literalists who believe that the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally, word for word."

I just recently saw someone on TV who is quite pissed off that anyone would put forward any other theory about the creation of the Grand Canyon than that it was caused by Noah's flood.

Is the USA now just a fundamentalist Christian nation? Is what is going on in the Middle East just the same old war between religions after all?
