<I can't see the US trade deficit not reversing.>

I agree over time... ie YEARS, or decade... that's a long term deal... and what % of current account deficit is trade anything?? The debt level is becoming HUGE... and those payments can't be reversed exept by paying it off... in fact, I wonder how much total payments to overseas lenders would INCREASE with an increase in rates???

Bottom line: Will the rest of the world keep sucking up dollars as it continues to decline???? If not, LOOK OUT!

OTOH, you don't keep giving the drunk more liquor and expect him to slowly sober up... or keep giving him credit night after night because you're afraid he won't pay you what he owes you already...

Wishful thinking Taikun but won't happen for the following reasons:

The US is not going to recover, not in our lifetime. Its days as a world bully, militarily and economically are finally over and China will replace them and Japan will find other markets to sell to rather than the USA. You suggest that domestic demand will be replaced internally. This is a very very slow process and by the time it reaches par levels the US will be in such sorry shape that it will be fruitless. and way too late.

"I can't see the US trade deficit not reversing." Highly unlikely because American consumers will simply pay the higher prices for necessities and pay by cash, not credit, and stop buying houses as investments and cars etc. it will happen. But reverse? You are VERY naive. Let me tell you something.....if you live in the USA go out for a drive around your town and tell me what percentage is obese. Obesity is a recent phenomenon and comes from emotional eating which is caused by depression often due to inability to cope with the realities of our world as it pertains to their own personal circumstances.

America is a depressed nation and its people are so demoralized at this point that they are essentially spiritually dead and that translates into a poor work ethic. Too much excessive debt and getting everything ones heart desires for little work to justify this lifestyle has made 2 whole generations lazy, fat, slothful and sleepy.

So please tell me how you think the USA will recover? And why they even deserve to?

Don't you think that countries that have been held down by richer countires deserve a chance now? How about India? My best advice is get out of US dollars as quick as you can.
