' - oh yeah! i'm with you! - where shall i tell the trucker to deliver your first load? -g- ... not gonna happen, DAK, there's a lot of wood out there that will make dimension lumber [2-by-x framing lumber, the mass market stuff quoted in futures] .... on that we're competing now with plantation wood from NZ, Chile, and other places, also with the great ravaging of Siberia [you wanna see devastating forestry, charter a low-level flight down the river Yenisei] .... better prices on the coast come from higher quality wood, clear tight-grain fir, cedar, and yellow cedar, basically 'So your talking cutting infested dead trees to 'save' some economic value... that's not even an issue is it? ' Actually, believe it or not, it is .... partly the same phenomenon as hank says is in Montana, the absolutist anti-forestry types who would prefer to see the bug-kill dry up and explode one fine summer's day .... also, the bug-kill is harder logging and must be done quickly to be effective, so an appropriate stumpage is lower than it would otherwise be, then this stumpage is used by the Commerzwaffe in their apples-vs-oranges propaganda 'depends on the mine ' - precisely, mining can be done low-impact, when well-planned and carefully executed ... doing it better doesn't necessarily mean doing it at far higher cost, either, in many cases .... this is true of forestry as well ... lots of room for improvement in both, i think it's fair to say they have both improved in recent years, it's a given that they must continue to improve Aaargh, there's been a great vomiting of politics overnight [and i guess this post is not helping, lol] .... sure it's the weekend, but aren't there appropriate threads for that, guys?! .... cheers
