Re: Some Americans are outraged that puny Putin has the gall to try to keep Ukraine in the Russian sphere.

Make no mistake: Putin's life is on the line.... Remember Gorbachev? Back in 1991, Gorbachev was forced into exile (*) as the reckless squanderer of the Soviet Union... yet what Gorbachev did to the Soviet Union is nothing compared to what's been going on since Putin came to power! Gorbachev's CIS still encompassed the Baltic states and the Central Asian bailiwicks...

I'm afraid that if Putin proves unable to keep Ukraine into the fold there'll be a coup in Moscow --the ghost of Alexander Lebed is haunting the Kremlin....

phil,

Re: Some Americans are outraged that puny Putin has the gall to try to keep Ukraine in the Russian sphere.

And many in Ukraine and Russia are extremely angry that the U.S. has been manipulating elections in Yugoslavia, Georgia, Ukraine and the 'Stans. And they might have a point.

Of course this is nothing new, now is it? You know the litany. It starts with Latin American elections for the past 150 years. Italy, Greece, Turkey and Iran in the aftermath of WW II and continuously across the globe since that time.

American corporatists are clearly the most meddlesome, irritating people on the planet today.

I agree. But there has been a strange development -- Israel has supported the legitimacy of the election. This is what I posted on Ray's thread.

I am sure the neocons are trying to raise the temperature for war wherever they can, first in Muslim countries, now in former USSR. This way they hope to re-establish US hegemony internationally, as in the Cold War, and especially in Europe. And we must not forget that the new US Secretary of State, Miss Amerika AKA Condi Rice, is a Russian expert.

Amazing to see how aggressive the US is -- and all on borrowed and printed funds. No wonder the USD is falling so sharply.
