Here is my contribution to the Steve Gardner story.

November 30, 2004.
To Millenium Information Services:

I read on the internet the story in the Chicago Sun-Times about Steve Gardner. I also understand that you have stated that Steve was laid off with others at the same time, and that there was no connection between his layoff and his public denouncement of John Kerry's military service.

The story stated several facts concerning his layoff that I would like you to comment on, should you respond to this email, as follows:

Is it true that Steve was laid off by email notification?
Is it true that he had been congratulated just "days before for exemplary work"?
Is it true that you told him that his position was being eliminated?
Is it true that you subsequently did advertise for someone to fill that position?

Surely you will concede that if the facts as related in the story are correct, it is a public relations disaster for your firm. However, I reserve judgement about the policies of your company because I know that sometimes a reporter will not tell both sides of a story in an article in the newspaper. I would like to hear your side before I conclude that Steve's layoff was politically motivated. Should you choose not to respond, I will of course be forced to conclude that the facts as related are correct.

Sincerely,
