BTW, I recall that Madam Nhu very testily and rather presciently told Kennedy and Congress about consequences that would befall him and America.

After that, she remained silent because France extracted a promise from her not to make any political statements in return for being allowed to live there. It seems to me the French were concerned she might embarrass them about the
iniquities of the French in pre-Dien Bien-Phu days.
