Private warnings thru intermediarys may indeed be transmitted to al quaeda. There have to be some things that they fear or some areas of mutual self-interest whatever they may be.
If you read between the lines of bin ladens last tape, you read weakness imo. This latest tape may well presage an attack but i think its more likely to be something like spain or egypt with conventional explosives. The war now seems almost like a proxy war in iraq without direct attacks either way on US or al Q. Maybe both sides will continue this way much like the cold war with hot spots like vietnam, mideast etc..
Did you notice pakistan pulled out of tribal areas and stopped hunting for bin laden? Maybe they got close. Maybe a quid pro quo between bush and obl. Folks here think they are one in the same. Maybe they are when it comes to self preservation. Or am i fantasising here. mike
