Writing code for features is -- writing code for features. Whether it's in C+ or asp or java or whatever, someone's gotta design, write code and debug it, so the difference between SI and a word processor is not as relevant as you might think.

"think for a minute about why SI is different than a word processing program hint: the value of SI is mainly the content provided by the Users"

re: "Without the Grandfathers, there would be no SI today." And you've gotten a free site for seven+ years and will continue to, in perpetuity -- Premium-Plus features or not. So again, that point is irrelevant.

re: "All I am requesting is what I was promised when I joined.." You and I joined about the same time. To continue getting free upgrades and extensive new features for life was never promised. Nor should a reasonable person expect it.

The difference between a frugal spender and miserly tightwad is that, after you take away all of their money and possessions from both of them, the frugal spender still has a positive net worth.

BTW, I promised Bob I'd subscribe after Adv. Search was done. It's now done. He'll have my cheque next week. A little incentive helps a software developer to .... develop software. Imagine that.

Without the Grandfathers, there would be no SI today

Well, IMO anyone who wants to simulate what the service would look like for Grandfathers if Bob hadn't taken it over should log out and stare at a blank screen for a while.

I'm grandfathered, and just about as cheap as you can get, but my check is in the mail. To me it's pretty simple. The service I'm subscribed to as a GF is just as good as the one I signed on to when I was grandfathered. I think Bob has done a fine job of honoring the moral commitment made to us at the time. For me the additional features are easily worth the few extra bucks, but for those who don't want to spend the money I don't understand the griping. Continue using the service we've always had and be grateful it's still here.

All I am requesting is what I was promised when I joined... EVERYTHING FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

To my knowledge, no such promise was made. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Were I aware of such a promise, we definitely wouldn't have acquired the site. It would've been insane to purchase a failing site and be required to stick with the business model that was causing its failure.
