The lesson of history is that it doesn't work for long. How long did Greek democracy last? How long the Roman Republic? How long...empires led by dictators? The great unwashed masses are probably unable to learn your lesson- and that, is the lesson of history. Something "working", after all, is relative. You could say things "work" when they last a long time.
