I don't mean this to be snide, but I've lost track of what words are acceptable here and what words aren't. Usually, I know when I'm insulting people and I've tried not to do that here. (Insulting certain members of congress is not the same as insulting people here that are engaging in debate.)

I think we decided that wingnut was sweet and affectionate, really, and not a horrible thing to call anyone. I believe the logical basis of this decision (on my part, at least) was that a wingnut could be from either the left or the right wing. Further, as my may recall, I asked Bill, who is the person who got called a wingnut, and he said it was a badge of honor or something for him to be called one. This is sort of like the old philosophical question about whether, when a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? In other words, if no one takes offense, is it name calling? I certainly don't mind being called a crazed leftist or whatever. It sort of comes with the territory of arguing politics in a place where there are very polarized opinions being debated.
