Re: The Dems don't have to do ANYTHING but sit back and watch these guys self destruct. In actuality, the Dems must begin to do something that they've failed to in recent elections. They are going to have to convince the American Know-Nothing Party that economic issues trump all the silly emotional hot-button issues that the GOP is so successful at exploiting. Instead of worrying about about abortions, gays and guns, Americans ought to be wondering about the erosion of the value of the dollar, the terrible implications of huge deficits, the incipient inflation which will take a recession to tame and the squandering of our national trade possibilities with the present emphasis on empire-building and wealth transfer to tax-advantaged multinational corporations. But, I'm not holding my breath. :) Gay-bashing is sure a lot easier to get steamed about than is a frank discussion of the necessity of a realignment of macroeconomic policy.
