Mike, anytime you criticize an action you can be characterized as denigrating the actor. Anytime you praise an action you can be characterized as cheerleading for the actor. The only reason I wrote the post was to illustrate how silly Goldworldnet's criticism was by contrasting the other extreme.

As far as the Tillman issue, you should read the two articles. They are important not because of the death of Mr. Tillman but rather because they make it so clear that the military attempted to cash in on his death to further political goals. Their efforts were not mistakes but rather deliberate, high-level decisions up and down the chain of command to outright lie.

I suspect that there was some of that involved with Kerry's as well. The Navy wanted some share of the combat glory in Vietnam and they weren't getting much of it. The facts of the investigative reporting done on Kerry, however, confirmed the details supporting his medals and two of his purple hearts and refuted, sometimes undeniably, the allegations of the Swift Boaters.

In either case I would be for the exposure of the truth. Honesty is not only the right policy, it is the best policy. If we want to live in the real world then we have to recognize it and not make decisions based on fantasy, magic thinking or faith. Ed
