I agree and we have finally gotten it in place in eastern europe. I remember talking about vietnam in those terms way back when. I remember saying first things first in asia--need to get rice in the belly and then you could think about grander things. Iraqis may have to go thru their civil war. It may have happened in any case after saddams mad max sons queasy and sleazy took over. We can beat our breasts as much as we want like GST does over the results of policy. Hopefully one of the good outcomes along with free kurds and shiaa is speeding up of the inevitable in sunniland.
Whats done is done and cutting ones losses in as honorable way as possible might be the best solution if the elections dont pan out. Right now i wouldnt expect much sunni participation so how would the elections create less rather than more division. Let the chips fall where they may. My goal would be post-election to save as many of our kids as possible. I will let the other folk on the thread worry about the sunnis. Noble efforts sometimes dont work out in the way we think they will. Another strike against that wilsonian in the white house, i guess. Hopefully they will not do the vietnam mistake and try to salvage the unsalvagable if thats where it heads. Mike
