It's a good message. I think a good start will be to give Bush the line item veto. That way he can get a smaller budget signed without having to give in to all the pork that Congress tacks on.

As far as reducing military spending, I'm not so sure. I've always been a big proponent of military spending, but he makes a good argument that we are spending far too much.

Frankly, though, if I had been President after 9/11, I would have used that political capital to get the U.S. off of Middle East oil dependence instead of going to Iraq. That would have saved us a ton on military spending and the investment in alternative energies would have paid off for generations.

But oh well, the folks with the common sense never get elected to public office, because they're too busy earning a living.
