The ARIS poll and other polls seem to back up the data. The world wide data is higher- but even then atheists only poll around 4% and that is declining with the fall of communism- which makes sense. Atheism, imo, is as much a belief as any deistic religion, and as such is something an adherent probably understands when polled, so I think agnosticism is what the "no religion" people really are, if they thought about their religious beliefs, which they probably do not. If they were atheists they would know what they were, and probably so state.

So, I suspect agnostics are under-reported, because a lot of agnostics don't know the word for what they are, and atheists are probably accurately reported. IMO, of course

(Thus looking at the US data- there are probably only around .4 or .5 % true atheists- and about 10 percent agnostics- I'm rounding down.)
