Freedom to Speak Once SI grants a person a membership, they obtain the "to" right of Speak on SI. Then they must obey the TOU to continue the "of" Speech. My objective in taking this view towards "post counts" is to highlight that SI already has in its power legally as a business to control the desired mix of post context, and let each user self control content from their agreement of membership, the TOU. A trend SI wants to continue and increase, is as Bob posted: "market-related posts [outnumbering] political and coffee shop posts" My suggestion to SI is for Bob to take two step backwards, remember what he thought two steps ago, then in a new direction, take a step forward and be where you hope to now be using three steps forward from the current position. I know, that sounds like babble :o) But really, the concept of including non investing threads is based on solid firm logical correct thinking. But the steps taken from what is a correct decision to view an "end" has many paths of "means," some better than others, and some even bad. Sometimes the correct idea is not fully understood, or in this case, allow non investing threads on SI to facilitate a sense of community among the membership that arrives here to trade the markets in this forum. Suggestion in less than 10 babbleSpeak words: Anyone willing to join SI using cash are exempt from this logic. (aka) Cash Rules, and breaks most rules :o) Membership Focus: Free Registration Levels 1 & 2 - Free, Limited Now take that step backwards to: Allow non investing threads on SI to facilitate a sense of community among the membership that arrives here to trade the markets. As I'm sure you said something like this Bob long ago in response to a "why" allow on SI non investing threads. Now take a new step forward in a new direction to undo and correct what I think were incorrect steps taken. Note: This will affect only new memberships. Joining SI as a Free member you obtain what is currently in place, but with the following simple single change as upfront information to be agreed upon in parallel with the TOU. (something like this)... SI is first and foremost an investing site for individuals to exchange among themselves this activity in a forum of the message boards. Once a Free member obtains a status determined by the owners of SI to add value to SI's purpose, then that Free member will advance in priviledges of features, and access to SI, of which one area of access is ability to post on non investing boards. (aka) Free membership allows posting only on investing boards. Thats how I think the SI community was original in thoughts, as a place for the posting investing members to acquire, not as something for a person only wanting to post non investing to obtain. As I mentioned, would only effect new Free members once adapted, eventhought I would change the TOU and put limits on the upper bounds a current Free can post on non investing boards to limit and pressure them Free(s) to cough up cash and obtain a paying membership. Devil in the Details Along the same lines as you just suggested Bob, SI will monitor the value of posts by a Free member, and increase their limit on investing boards if SI determines that the value to SI will also increase. From this, the more a Free member posts good content on investing boards, the more they will be allowed to post on non investing boards. Bottom line, keep off SI those folks wanting Free membership to post top heavy on non investing boards. ok, done Now gotta go to IH and see if Matt, Fred and Churak reported in with their respective feet temperatures :o) D:oug
