<<my perception is that most of the people who liked W couldn't wait for it to happen. "Glee" wouldn't be too strong a word for the reaction when it finally started.>>

I like Dubya as well as anybody, hell, he sent me a Christmas card. Being a medic during the Vietnam War I have seen what happens. I hated seeing Gulf War 1 and Gulf War 2 being started. If I was president I couldn't order our troops into battle but I'm glad we have a leader who can when it becomes necessary.

I'm not sure it was glee. I prefer to think of it as a fatuous satisfaction, on the part of some misguided individuals, that America was stomping some heathen ass. Now that sentiment was not the only sentiment out there- but for the more outre posters, it was certainly there- and went hand in hand with the "nuke mecca" and the "no matter what we do we're better than THEM" philosophy.

Lest anyone think the "nuke mecca" idea is made up- one article articulating a reason for it is here (and there are many less articulate posts on SI asserting the same sort of idea- but much less intelligently, and some assert it without having any discernible strategy for asserting it.)
