RE: "Flu got spread because with WWI ending, there was a lot of pent up desire to travel"

People travel more today.

In London, the Spanish flu spread due to rats according to a UK Guardian article.

CJ,

From what i understand the Avian Flu is current spreading from bird to human but not yet from human to human. (That may have changed and I hadn't read it yet).

re: In general, the more lethal something is, the less likely it is to be distributed.

Isn't the length of the contagious period, without symptoms <can't remember the name for that>, more important?

The reason Ebola has never been a successful pandemic virus is that it kills so quickly. If it could just learn to hang around in the host and jump to new hosts without showing it's symptoms, it would be a nightmare.
