Reminds me of Montana!" Not the same as Montana. The population center of Chubut is Esquel. It is a university town, and most of the voters have jobs in some fashion or another within the public sector - city, provincial or federal. They can afford to be against mining. They don't need it. The Indians there are very poor, but they also object to mining. Want to read more? Here's a copy of a recent post I had on another forum. Some direct and indirect news & other DD on mining, together with anti-mining developments in Chubut, some of which is more applicable to the general Esquel area. The first link, however, should be of more immediate interest for a number of reasons. The reference to work by Patagonia Gold does not refute what I believe to be the fact that no new exploration permits have been approved in Chubut since the mining bans went into effect last year. <u/>http://www.resourceinvestor.com/pebble.asp?relid=6985 & hpdexploration.com As the referenced project (in the first link) is an older application, it points to their claims in Chubut having been held for a long time. Further, they are the party who sold Meridian it's interests In the Esquel Gold Project. The remaining links point more to the general sentiments of the dominant population center regarding mining issues. All links are in addition to older ones like these I've posted in the past. This is FWIW, because each reader will see what they want to see. Happy reading. indigenouscultures.com minesandcommunities.org wrm.org.uy radioproject.org
