What do you think about pat buchanans contention that post-election US pullback to more secure areas and an announcement of a scheduled withdrawl could defuse the nationalist component of the insurgency. Seems to me we have two schools here + the rummy way:
1. biden/mccain add troops and stay the course
2. declare victory, especially if elected iraqis ask us to leave by saying we rid iraq of saddam and gave them a dem foundation to build on. We know that we will have relatively stability in north and south and if buchanan is right above we might even be able to isolate terrorists and avoid civil war in the triangle.
3. current rummy way with current troop levels with an open ended committment.
