<Globalstar offers satellite telecommunications services, for both voice and data, from virtually anywhere to more than 110,000 subscribers in over 120 countries around the world.>

Huh? Only 110,000 subscribers. That can't be right surely.

There were some 150,000 phones made by QUALCOMM and then there were all the Ericsson and Telit phones. QUALCOMM started production again earlier this year. I don't have facts, but I'd have guessed there are more like 170,000 subscribers or even 200,000.

Which is still only a twentieth of what would have been considered a reasonable number half a decade ago at the Telecom99 launch of service.

For a $3 billion dollar system, 110,000 subscribers means $30,000 per subscriber. That's an expensive phone service and doesn't include the subscriber devices.
